Making Mother Nature Our Muse

CREATED FOR THE HENRY FORD MAGAZINE

A series of illustrations exploring how nature inspires innovation, through the process of biomimicry.

I was thrilled to be asked by The Henry Ford magazine to create a series of illustrations to accompany an article about biomimicry, exploring the amazing ways in which the natural world can inspire invention and innovation. In total, I created three spots and a full page illustration for the magazine. The spot illustration each explored a particular example of biomimicry, including how whale fins helped in the creation of wind turbines, and kingfisher beaks aided the design of high speed trains. The larger illustration was more general, looking at how we can draw inspiration from nature. For this I thought scientists gazing upon the wall of a gallery provided a neat portrayal of this concept. This was a super fun brief, which involved the exploration of some interesting ideas.
